Shop Volunteer

Join us as a volunteer

We always welcome new volunteers and it's an ideal way to meet new people and make new friends whilst contributing to the success of a very special part of our village community.

The success of the shop is mainly due to the contributions of a large number of enthusiastic and supportive volunteers, suplementing the part time staff who manage the shop and Post Office. We couldn't do it without them!

It is thanks to our enthusiastic and supportive volunteers that we can open the shop each day.

It's not just working behind the counter, we also need event organisers and fund-raisers, people who like baking, and people to pick up goods either from the cash and carry or from local suppliers. Also those who like to investigate new product lines or to help with how we organise the shop.

The Shop Committee

The Shop Committee has responsibility for the overall management of the shop, the way it works and its finances. The Committee currently has 6 members and meets regularly. Individual committee members are also involved in supporting Janette or helping to run events. There is also an Operations Committee that meets more frequently to discuss and plan in a more detailed way.

If you would like to be involved in this committee, please contact the Committee Chairman, Alastair Barron on 01962 886884 or by email alastair@barronhorrill.com.

Serving in the Shop

Shifts can be long or short. We welcome those who can do an hour every now and then, others who can fill a regular slot (mornings or afternoons) and also those who are "on stand-by" to help when a slot is proving difficult to fill.

And from time to time there are opportunities to work in the Post Office too.

Behind the Scenes

It is not all just working behind the counter, we also need event organisers and fund-raisers, people who like baking, and people to pick up goods either from the cash and carry or from local suppliers. We also need those who like to investigate new product lines or to help with how we organise the shop.

We'd love to hear from you

Have fun and meet people

The benefits of working in or for the shop are many – it could add some useful voluntary experience to your CV, be an opportunity to meet more people in the village – and best of all it’s great fun!

Training as needed

Training for the shop will be provided as needed, especially for working behind the shop counter - usually in a half-day session with an experienced volunteer. Extensive training is required to work in the Post Office.
